How to Adopt

All dogs that leave the shelter are fully vaccinated with a vaccination book/pet passport & microchipped. The cost for this is to be covered by the new family. In addition to these costs are the costs for the transport if you do not pick up your dog from the shelter yourself.

We are looking for a home where the dog is kept inside a house with a garden or near a park. We would also be looking for a home where the dog would have some company during the daytime, either with other members of the family or the owner so that the dog is not left alone for multiple hours.

Just get in touch so we can talk about the needs of the dog you are interested in and whether your circumstances fit.

Adoption within Greece 🇬🇷

This is the easiest way and we can arrange transport to the adopter anywhere in Greece. Transport costs vary depending on the final destination, so feel free to contact us for an exact calculation. We will need the adopters’ data for the microchip registration in advance.

Of course, we are also happy if the adopters pick up their dog themselves and we can meet them in person.

Puppies who are here without their mothers can be adopted at 3 months and over.
Puppies who are here with their mothers will ideally stay with their mothers until 4 months old, so that they can learn from her during this precious development time in their lives.

Adoption within the EU 🇪🇺

Dogs leaving Greece must meet 3 criteria:

> Carry a microchip

> Have received a rabies vaccination 3 weeks before leaving the country (Therefore puppies can only leave from 15 weeks onwards).

> Have a European pet passport

For the countries Great Britain (including Northern Ireland), Ireland, Malta, Finland and Norway, tapeworm treatment must also be carried out at the vet’s no earlier than five days and no later than 24 hours before travel and must be recorded in the EU pet passport with details of the time.

The exact transport route depends on the destination country. The dogs usually travel with a reliable pet transportation company to their new family. If a flight companion can be found who can accompany the dog to the destination airport, this is also possible.

The transport owner will need a completed authorisation form from the owner allowing the transporter to transport their dog.

Of course, it is easiest if you pick up your new family member yourself.

Adoption from the UK 🇬🇧

Bringing a dog to the UK has become a bit more complicated since Brexit.

Accompanied dog

If the dog is accompanied it’s easier. In other words, if someone is prepared to come and collect a dog and fly back with it, it would involve only a EU pet passport, microchip and vaccinations. Puppies need to be at least 4 months old.

There is either the option to simply stay in Athens for one night and a volunteer will bring the dog to the airport, or you can come directly to Magic Mountain and pick up your dog yourself.

Then you would catch a dog-friendly flight back home, costs for this differ. Aegean Airways is a pet-friendly and economical way to fly from Athens to Paris, Amsterdam or Brussels, and then by car and ferry to the UK.

Unaccompanied dog

If you have decided to adopt a dog from Magic Mountain but unfortunately cannot come and pick it up yourself, we will arrange the transport.
The cost of transport from Andros to the UK may vary slightly depending on how many dogs are travelling together.
