With so many animals, there is a lot to do at Magic Mountain. Fortunately, there is also enough space, so we are constantly looking for volunteers through workaway.

What you should know:

  • The dogs sleep in the house not in kennels
  • The donkeys roam free on the property
  • No meat consumption in this house
  • Work mainly takes place in the mornings but flexibility for emergencies is appreciated
  • Accommodation is provided in double or single bedrooms with a shared bathroom
  • Limited consumption of alcohol on the property
  • Smoking only outside the accommodation
  • Absolutely no use of drugs
  • Expected working hours are 5h/day 5 days/week
  • Minimum stay is 2 weeks

We are grateful for all the volunteers 🙏

My experience at the animal shelter was one I will forever cherish in my heart. Sandy’s work is full of love and dedication and she is a strong woman who became a role model for me.

The animals are incredibly loving and entertaining and will reward you with lots of gratitude and love. The work can be physical but there’s no doubt that’s it’s definitely worth it and rewarding.
I hope that most animals will find forever homes but I also know that they are in good hands while staying at Andros Animal Shelter.
A huge thank you Sandy, to the trust you gave me and all the other volunteers who grew close to me.

Stella & Béla

I stayed at the animal shelter with my girlfriend Stella for more than three weeks and absolutely loved our time here. Sandy is a strong, lovely and generous lady with a big heart, espacially for the animals.

She subordinates everything to the welfare of the dogs and you can see the happiness in her eyes when we found a new home for a rescued dog.

Sure, there were stressful and emotional moments, but in the end, we knew in every situation and every task that we were doing it for the good of the animals. If you are looking for a project where you can bring in your own ideas, where you have to take responsibility and where you can be sure that your help is really needed, then this is the right project for you! It was a great first workaway experience and we miss the dogs already!

I stayed with Sandy for the month of October. This was one of the best months of my life. Sandy is lovely, funny, warm and one of the most selfless people I have ever met in my life who does amazing work for these beautiful animals.

There were about 40 dogs there when I first arrived and fortunately, October was a good month for adoptions with many of them being successfully rehomed abroad. There are also cats, donkeys and horses there. The island of Andros is beautiful, it is so natural and unspoilt and I loved exploring it during my time off. The dogs at the refuge are absolutely beautiful; they are loving, affectionate and friendly and I miss them incredibly. I will definitely go back there as it was such a positive experience.

The tasks at Magic Mountain include:

  • Keeping the house clean
  • Cooking in turns with the other volunteers
  • Computer work like fundraising or social media
  • Gardening
  • Feeding the animals
  • Whatever comes up and is needed

Of course, there is also plenty of time to cuddle with the dogs, go for a walk or explore the beautiful island of Andros. Just note you’d need a car to get from Arni to the beach or the small cities of Batsi and Chora.
